Family Portrait

My inspiration for this project for my nieces Christmas gift came from a book called, Bend the Rules with Fabric by Amy Karol. The pattern for the dolls came from the Donation Dollies website.

Swedish Dala Screen Print

I took the image from LiL Blue Boo's Blog (tons of cool stuff!) and turned it into a screen to print some Christmas tees for my family to celebrate Mom's Swedish heritage.

Each Snowflake is Unique

A couple of days of advent we spent studying, reading about, and making our own snowflakes. What miracles! And such an awesome testimony to our Creator God. The thought that we are infinitely more unique and created for such a greater purpose than even these beautiful ice crystals is amazing!

I used a paper doily for the "snowflake" shape on the shirt.
Then we sprayed the shirt with fabric spray paint over the snowflake.

As that dried, I made a screen using the photo emulsion technique.

I applied the emulsion to a handmade screen (organza fabric in a 14'' embroidery hoop), made a transparency of the above image and "burned" the image into the screen by exposing it in the sunlight for a couple of minutes (not a recommended method due to it's inconsistency, but it happened to work this time!)

After the fabric spray paint dried, I silkscreened the "unique" image onto the shirt!! One for each of my very unique daughters!!

Tata's "skirt"

Here's a skirt I made from an old dress shirt of my dad's that had a stain on it. I chopped off the bottom, hemmed the waist with some elastic inside and then just sewed a ribbon to the bottom. SOOO easy!!! Inspired by Oliver + S tutorial

Easter Dresses

I made these dresses from McCall's 5966. Jo's turned out great size wise. Lydia's got about 3 more years of wear in hers :-)

18 inch doll clothes from old stuff!

My niece is really into her American Girl Doll and so I made this little outfit for her birthday. The shirt/dress was made from the top of an old t-shirt. I just snipped a little hole in the neck and fed some elastic through to gather it to doll sized. The skirt was made from the bottom of a jeans pant leg. The ladybug leggings were from one of my favorite pair of socks that were just a little too holey!! And the slipper boots where made from another worn out pair of socks.

Someone in Texas Loves Me!

Here's another outfit that I made from 2 thrift t-shirts. I replaced the existing yoke of the blue shirt with a purple one and sewed the purple sleeves on with elastic thread for a gathered, poofier look. The stretchy yoga-type pants were made from the purple t-shirt. Jo will be wearing this one proudly!!! We love our Texas family and friends!!

Dresses for Jo

The first dress I made from one of Grandad's old dress shirts. The emroidered cuff with his initials was turned into one of the little sleeves. The peasant dress was made from a sheet I found at the thrift store. The following sites were my inspirations for these dresses:
And for the mommies here's some inspiration:

Doll house tranformed

Here's a before and after pic of the uplift I gave the dollhouse that Meme got Jo for her birthday last year. Not a super drastic change, but it definitely made a difference. You might want to click on the image to get the full effect. I basically decopagued the floors and roof with different floor samples that I found online. Go to modpodgerocks.blogspot.com for more inspiring projects!!

Latest Refashion from 2 tees

This idea was inspired by Anna at anniepat.blogspot.com (thanks anna-cool creations!!) and by Cal Patch's contribution to Craft Stylish. I didn't take a before pic but basically I took 2 oversized t-shirts that I found at the thrift store and transformed them into a cute long-sleeved dress, pants, and a little headband for jo. I gathered the pink shirt around the neck before attaching it to the yellow yoke and gathered the sleeves at the shoulder (with regular thread) and at the bottom of the sleeve (with elastic thread) for a poofy look. The pink shirt says austin, texas central railroad. thought that was fun!! Lydia loves when jo wears the dress- "choo choo!! choo choo!!"

Bible Puppets

Here are the puppets (Jesus and Nicodemus) that I used in Jo's Sunday School lesson yesterday. I got the basic template for the puppets at Puppets for Ministry (free pdf!). They were a big hit! Now I just need to practice my storytelling skills!

Dolls for girls

These are what I made Lydia and Jo for Christmas! I got the template for the elephant (Lydia's first and favorite animal sound) on the back of the Polyfil bag. I added the baby dolls to ride in the elephant's saddle. The crocheted doll on the right I based off of a pattern by Lion Brand Yarns. I changed the hair, legs, and added some boots!

Silhouette of kids

I made these pictures for Christmas presents for family. I used the tutorial at the adventures of rory and jess blog. It was actually a lot easier than I thought!
